There is the 168-horsepower 2.5-liter engine carried over from last year, offered on the base model. There is the new more popular turbocharged 1.6-liter that puts out 178 hp and returns 33 mpg on the highway. Then there is the quicker acceleration of the 240-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, which effectively replaces the V6 in the old Escape.
