What's New for the 2018 Ford Mustang?
There are very few truly iconic cars, but the Mustang is certainly one that deserves the title. Since its introduction in the 1960s, the Mustang has always been a stylish and sophisticated car that combines affordable performance with attractive styling. And the 2018 model is certainly no exception. The 2018 model Mustang underwent a couple of significant changes to the powertrain and the exterior. Ford also announced there'll be a rebooted version of the classic "Bullitt" Mustang, which is set to come out mid-year as a 2019 model.
The familiar V6 that Mustangs have had in recent years is gone. The new base engine is a 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.3-liter engine and there is also a new ten-speed automatic transmission. Tweaks to the V8 engine have upped the horsepower 25 to an impressive 460 and also added 20 lbs of torque. Ford also added an adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, an active exhaust system, a new instrumentation panel with digital gauge cluster and a number of new safety assist features. Except for that dark period in the late 1970s that we won't talk about, while the Mustang has evolved over the years it always manages to walk that thin line between retro classic and modern sports car. The 2018 Mustang got a substantial exterior overhaul, with a newer angular look that lowers and flattens the hood while reworking the front bumper to more closely look like the one on the Ford GT Supercar. The headlights and taillights have been redesigned and now feature LED lights.
