What's New for the 2019 Ford Taurus?
The 2019 model year marks the swan song of the Ford Taurus, which enjoyed a burst of popularity and sales after its debut in 1986. Unsurprisingly, the full-size sedan does not receive any updates or changes. It is still available as a base-level SE, slightly more equipped SEL, luxury-oriented Limited, and a high-performance SHO variant. While the SE, SEL, and Limited are powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 288 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque, the SHO goes with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which produces 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are pinned to a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, with paddle shifters added on the SHO for more control over gear shifting-similar to a manual gearbox. On the SHO, you can choose between a front-wheel drivetrain and an all-wheel-drive system; the front-wheel drive is standard on the other three trims, with the choice of getting the all-wheel drivetrain instead. The 2019 Taurus can be configured to produce a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
With two rows of seats for up to five people, the 2019 Ford Taurus provides 102.2 cubic feet of passenger volume and 20.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. Cloth upholstery and 6-way power driver and front passenger seats with manual recline and lumbar support are standard. The Limited gets a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, perforated leather that replaces the cloth trim, heating and cooling capability on the front seats in addition to an upgrade to 10-way power, second-row heated seats, and a memory system for the driver's seat. The SHO's cabin has its trim emblems on the perforated leather covering to differentiate itself from that of the Limited. Standard interior amenities on the 2019 Ford Taurus include cruise control, remote keyless entry, remote start, the SYNC infotainment system, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, a USB port for hooking up mobile devices, and a single-disc CD player with MP3 playback capability. The SEL steps it up with dual-zone automatic climate control and SiriusXM Radio service for six months.
The Limited is boosted with smart key access with push-button engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, an upgrade of the infotainment system to SYNC 3, HD Radio, and a seven-speaker Sony audio system (instead of the six-speaker). A memory card slot is added on the SHO. Dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual roof-mounted side curtain airbags appear on the 2019 Taurus for restraint and cushioning in the event of a crash. Other standard safety features on the full-size vehicle include a rearview camera, electronic vehicle stability and traction control, anti-lock braking system with the all-wheel disc brakes, torque vectoring control, curve control, brake assist, MyKey technology for monitoring teen-driving habits, Belt-Minder technology for safety belt alerts, an SOS post-crash alert system, and an anti-theft system, with a perimeter alarm added on all trims but the base-level SE.
