Ford Electric Vehicle FAQs

Ford Electric Vehicles

The current Ford lineup offers many gas-powered vehicles and a variety of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles. Our Fort Mill Ford team wants you to have all of the facts in front of you about your options so that you can make an informed vehicle selection. These are some of our customers' most frequently asked questions about electrified vehicles.

How are Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid, and Electric Vehicles Different?

Hybrid vehicles are powered by both a gas combustion engine and a battery-powered electric motor. The battery uses regenerative braking for battery charging, so cord-based charging is unnecessary. Plug-in hybrid vehicles also have both types of engines, and these vehicles use battery power exclusively until that power source is depleted. You will need to charge the battery in a PHEV. An electric vehicle only has a battery-powered motor and must regularly be charged.

What Are the Benefits of Driving an Electric Vehicle?

One of the most notable benefits of driving an EV is eliminating your gas bill and stopping visiting the gas station regularly. Additional savings are available through reduced maintenance requirements and available tax credits. An EV is an environmentally friendly vehicle with a quieter motor and faster acceleration.

How Are EV Maintenance Requirements Different?

All the maintenance requirements associated with a combustion engine are eliminated, such as changing the oil, spark plugs, belts, and other parts. Tire replacements, brake services, and several others are still necessary.

Does an EV Require Auto Maintenance?

EVs have fewer maintenance requirements than vehicles with combustion engine, but some services are still required. The Fort Mill Ford service center provides superior auto care to meet your vehicle's needs.

What Are the Options for EV Home Charging?

Many drivers who have a plug-in hybrid vehicle use a Level 1 charging. This type of charger is slower than the alternative, so it is commonly used for overnight charging. A Level 2 charger produces faster results with a 240-volt outlet. Public charging stations are usually equipped with Level 2 chargers.

How Do You Find EV Public Charging Stations?

Your Ford has built-in technology that allows you to locate a nearby charging station. There are also several apps available for download that offer similar functionality. One is the FordPass app, which shows you the BlueOval Charge Network stations near you.
